Fly Fishing Guide For Beginners

When to Fly Fish

Each region has its own fly fishing open season depending the geographical location. The water level can change drastically between seasons. In areas where water is dependent on the melt of snow can swell largely between the spring and early summer. From the beginning of May through the end of June, many rivers in western region are so high that they are not fishable.

Although rivers and streams that don’t ice in the winter are still fishable, fishing can be very slow because fish and their food for example insects are lethargic. When temperature rises, the metabolish of fish will be activated. Then the fishing can be outstanding.

Keep in mind that fish don’t like too cold or too hot. During the summer, fishing is usually slow during the hottest time of the day. So the morings and the evenings are the most productive time of the day. In the fall and winter, when the temperature drops, the fish become most active in the midday.

Each species of fish has its own feeding time. If you like to catch trout, the summer time offers the best fishing opportunies. If you prefer tarpon in the Florida, the month of April, May, and June offer the best opportunities.
